Drone Symposium Coming to Pendleton!
PENDLETON, OR – The Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) Cascade Chapter is hosting their fall symposium, “Drones and Droids: Unmanned Systems on the Range” at the Pendleton Convention Center October 2nd and 3rd. Co-hosted by the Pendleton UAS Range, the symposium will focus on end use and end users for drone systems with presentations, workshops, displays and demonstrations for all attendees to enjoy.
With the Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) industry continuing to grow and gain relevance in an increasing number of industries, the AUVSI Cascade Chapter Fall Symposium will speak to unmanned systems in a variety of industries. The symposium lineup includes presentations from nationally acclaimed speakers and panel discussions from end user communities who are completely immersed in the latest innovative developments in unmanned systems that are being used or designed for industry, government and academia.
Co-hosted by the Pendleton UAS Range, the symposium will include over 15 displays of the latest unmanned technologies from across the industry – including Airbus’ Vahana, an Urban Air Mobility technology demonstrator aircraft, and Cubic ISR’s newest vehicle – ISR-ONE! Thus far, Vahana has only been available for public viewing in two places – the Paris Air Show and the Oshkosh Air Show. This symposium also offers the rare opportunity to see the 1300 lb. ISR-ONE by Cubic Corporation. Other displays include the 650+ lbs. PNNL ArcticShark; two variants of the PAE ISR Resolute Eagle; Yamaha Motor Corporation’s RMAX; and the AAI RQ-7 Shadow and more. Beyond the presentations, workshops, displays and demonstrations, the symposium also offers valuable networking opportunities during the two-day event, one of which includes a Networking Party the evening of the 2nd with a mix of music, food and beverages at the Happy Canyon Arena.
“This event will be a great opportunity for this community to hear from end users of unmanned systems and for everyone to see the latest cutting-edge unmanned systems technologies,” stated Jeff Ratcliffe, President of AUVSI Cascade Chapter. “The Pendleton area has become the west coast hub for manufacturers and end users to develop and test new unmanned systems and operational concepts. The fact that the Vahana and ISR-ONE are joining our impressive lineup of displays is a true testament to the role Pendleton plays in this growing industry. The Pendleton and surrounding communities know and are proud that all of these amazing innovations are happening right here in their own backyard.”
Keynote speakers for the symposium include Matt Deal, Head of Flight Test for Vahana at A3 by Airbus and Dr. Rick Spinrad, President of the Marine Technology Society. The speaker lineup also includes Col. Al Gronewold, who will share his unique experience as Director of Aviation and Safety for the Oregon National Guard. Panel topics include drone use for first responders, search & rescue, and disaster relief, as well as the path to commercialization of unmanned systems, and drone use for farming and ranching, logging, forestry and forest firefighting.
With such a wide variety of topics and displays, and so many experienced speakers, “Drones and Droids: Unmanned Systems on the Range” offers breadth and depth that speaks to everyone interested in unmanned systems. Symposium registration is open to the public and students interested in working in this cutting-edge industry are encouraged to register and join. Registration is now open on the AUVSI Cascade Chapter website!
